Output & Placement
Every result arrives in Photoshop as a layer. Two settings control how it is placed. You find them under Plugin settings in the settings view (the gear button).
Output mode
- Smart object (default): The result is placed as a smart object, a layer type that preserves the original image data. This keeps your work non destructive.
- New layer: The result is placed as a normal pixel layer.
- New document: The result opens as a separate new document. Preview drafts are the exception, they always stay in the current document.
Placement
When the result and the target area have different proportions, this setting decides how the image is fitted:
- Fit inside (default): The whole image fits inside the target area. Small gaps can remain.
- Cover and crop: The image fills the target area completely. Overhanging parts are cropped.
- Exact fill: The image is stretched to match the area exactly. Proportions may distort.
Masks
When you generate with a selection, the new layer automatically receives a layer mask in the shape of that selection. The change appears only inside the selection, and you can edit or delete the mask afterwards like any other Photoshop mask. There is nothing to switch on for this.

Color
Preserve color space (default on) sits in the Layer settings row of the panel, not in the settings view. It tags results with their color profile so that Photoshop converts them correctly into the profile of your document. This keeps colors consistent in documents that do not use sRGB.
Where the result lands
Seam decides the target in this order: your active selection, then the active layer, then the canvas. Results are pinned to the document they were started in, so switching documents mid generation does not drop the layer into the wrong file. If that document is gone by the time the image arrives, Seam opens the result in a new document rather than losing it.
