Preview & Commit

With Preview and Commit you render a small draft first and produce the full resolution image only when you are satisfied. The full quality render runs once, at the end, which keeps costs down.

The Preview button appears only for the Nano Banana models and GPT-Image-2, and never in the Upscale tab. What the draft saves depends on the model: Nano Banana 2.1 and Nano Banana Pro preview at 1K and commit at 4K, and GPT-Image-2 previews at low quality and commits at high. Nano Banana 2 Lite renders at one size only, so its preview costs the same as the final image and only saves you the wait.

How it works

   Set up your generation as usual, then click Preview instead of Generate. A low resolution draft is placed as a layer. Its name is marked with "[Preview]".

   Not right yet? Adjust your description or settings and preview again.

   When the draft fits, click Commit. The image is rendered at full resolution and replaces the draft layer in place. Position, size, and mask are kept.

Notes

• Drafts are always placed into the current document, even if the output mode is set to "New document".
• Each preview is a generation of its own and is charged like one, just at the cheaper preview setting.
• If Auto Mask is enabled, the mask is applied at the Commit step, not on the draft.
• Clicking Preview again while a draft is pending discards the old draft and starts over.
