Settings Overview

Seam keeps the number of settings deliberately small. Anything that has one sensible answer is simply done that way, so what remains is genuinely a choice. Settings live in two places.

Settings view (gear button)

Opens on your Seam account with the email you signed in with, a Sign out button, and the installed plugin version with a check for updates. Below that sits Plugin settings:

  • Output mode (default Smart object): New layer, Smart object, or New document. See the "Output & Placement" page.
  • Placement (default Fit inside): Fit inside, Cover and crop, or Exact fill. How results are fitted into the target area.
  • Reference library (default Enhancing and generating): How the text notes of a selected reference library are used. Off, When enhancing, or Enhancing and generating. See the "Prompt & Reference Libraries" page.
  • Prompt history (default 50): None, 10, 20, 50, or 100 entries. None hides the history button.
  • Auto mask (Beta): A Smart edge feather switch (default on) and a Mask feather value (default 6 px). The on/off switch itself sits in the layer settings row. See the "Auto Mask (Beta)" page.
  • Smart layer names (default off): Names result layers after your prompt, for example "Edit - Red sports car", instead of after the source and model. It is off by default because it sends your prompt to a text service to produce the name.

Layer settings (in the panel)

Three switches sit in the panel itself, under Layer settings, where you can reach them without opening the settings view:

  • Sample all layers (default on): The model sees everything visible in the target area. When off, it sees only the active layer. Shown in Edit and Upscale.
  • Auto mask (Beta) (default off): Masks the object from your description after generating. Shown in Create and Edit, remembered per tab, and off again after a restart.
  • Preserve color space (default on): Converts results correctly into the document color profile.

Settings that no longer exist

Version 1.0.18 removed several switches and made their sensible value the fixed behavior. Prompt enhancement is always available, new layers are always masked to your selection, results are not scaled to the canvas when there is no target, layer provenance is always recorded, and detailed logging is always on so a bug report carries what support needs.

Backup provider

If a Google or OpenAI model does not respond, Seam can run the request through a backup provider instead. Results may differ slightly. By default Seam asks you each time. Ticking "Don't ask again" in that dialog makes your answer permanent: confirming switches automatically from then on, cancelling means Seam shows the error instead. A plugin reset brings the question back.

Reset plugin

Reset plugin signs you out, restores all defaults, and deletes your prompt history, your uploads, and the cached libraries. A confirmation dialog appears first.

Two things deliberately survive: layer provenance records, so older layers can still be loaded, and your prompt library presets, which come back from your account the next time you sign in. The device also keeps its seat instead of taking up a second one.
