AI object removal inside Photoshop

Select what should go, describe what belongs there instead. The fill returns as a masked layer, so the original stays intact.

01

Select the object

Lasso, marquee, or quick selection. Include a little of the surrounding surface so the model can match texture and light.

02

Say what belongs there

Describe the surface that should replace it, for example "empty wooden floor". A description of the result works better than an instruction to delete.

03

Generate

The fill arrives as a new layer with a layer mask in the shape of your selection. Everything outside the selection is untouched.

Sample All LayersOn by default: the model sees everything visible in the target area. Turn it off to edit one layer in isolation
ModelsNano Banana, GPT-Image-2, FLUX.2, Reve, and Seedream all handle selection based edits
OutputA new layer above the original, masked to the selection
Document modeRGB
RequiresAdobe Photoshop 27.0 or newer, Windows or macOS

The same selection based edit adds objects, swaps a background, or relights a scene. It is one workflow with different prompts, covered in the Edit guide. For cutouts without a prompt, see background removal.
